REMEMBERING JERRY SANTERIO
MATRIX HOME CARE remembers and honors - Jerry Santeiro - who passed away on September 5, 2013.
Jerry was great-great grandson of Gerardo Machado (the 5th President of Cuba) and was born in Havana, Cuba, on March 11, 1951. He emigrated to Miami with his family in 1960 and earned his Bachelor of Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1972 and an MBA from Florida International University in 1980.
For the past seven years, Jerry served as Executive Director of the Guardianship Program of Dade County. Jerry's early career included 24 years at Florida Power & Light Company, most notably as External Affairs Manager. He also worked for Matrix Home Care.
Dr. Alex Fiuza, currently Director of Matrix Client Services for Miami-Dade and Broward counties, worked closely with Jerry at the Florida Coalition on Hispanic Aging, The Miami-Dade Coalition on Aging and The Alliance on Aging Board and related Committees. Jerry helped support fundraising events as an active sponsor for Catholic Hospice, ensuring successful fundraising for charitable care as well working with the ALS Division at the University of Miami and other local charities.
"Jerry was a great man devoted to helping others in every which way possible, with a zest for life," Fiuza remembers.
"Jerry was devoted to the community and was kind at heart. His sense of a comical wit surpassed that of others. He could step into a room and make everybody laugh and feel happy. His perseverance exemplified that nothing is impossible. A hero for many, a gentle giant for others, he is my friend who I will truly miss!"
The Matrix family extends our deepest sympathies to Jerry's family.
