Alexander Fiuza named Matrix Health Care's director of clients services for Miami-Dade and Broward counties
WEST PALM BEACH (September, 2009) - Matrix Home Care today announced the appointment of Alexander Fiuza, PhD, as director of client services for Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. An active leader in the South Florida healthcare community with more than 20 years of experience, Fiuza will be responsible for matching patient requirements with Matrix services and strengthening relationships with area physicians and hospitals.
"With his multicultural background, strong communications skills and ability to build rapport with patients, families and physicians, Alex will play a key role in growing our company's position in the South Florida market," said Pernille Ostberg, MBA, RPh, Matrix president and CEO.
Fiuza, who holds a doctorate in psychology, has a broad range of healthcare experience that ranges from assisting chronically ill children to providing the elderly with hospice services. A native of Miami, Fiuza, 39, is fluent in English, Spanish, Italian and French. "I look forward to working with the Matrix team in providing personal care aligned to the cultural backgrounds of patients and families," said Fiuza, who will be based in Matrix's Coral Gables office.
Fiuza serves on the Miami-Dade County Coalition on Aging, and is a member of Rallying Points National Resource Center On Diversity. He recently wrote the preface to a therapeutic book, "Transforma tu Perdida," which is being translated to English this fall as "Transforming Your Loss." Before joining Matrix, Fiuza was director of community services for Catholic Hospice in Miami, responsible for community outreach, fundraising, and marketing.
He was a public assistance specialist with the Florida Department of Children and Families, a financial counselor and legal administrator at Miami Children's Hospital and an analyst for the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). As an Elderly Services case manager for Miami-Dade County, Fiuza implemented a med-waiver program providing homecare services to citizens with incapacities, and created an outreach program to benefit Alzheimer's patients. He also helped to raise $20,000 for the League Against Cancer.
Fiuza earned his B.A. in communication arts from St. Thomas University, specializing in public relations, marketing, advertising, and broadcast journalism. He also received his Master of Science in Management (MSM) and Master of Science in Public Management (MPM) degrees from St. Thomas University, and a PhD in clinical psychology from Kennedy Western University.
